Monterey Park, Los Angeles County
Monterey Park incorporated in 1916. In the 1920s a developer built a terraced waterfall called the Cascades and a Spanish-style sales office to promote a hillside subdivision, and both survive as city landmarks. Around the same time Laura Scudder, who ran a potato chip business in town, began sealing her chips in wax paper bags, the forerunner of the modern snack bag.
